Bangalore: Out of 5,834 nominations, 242 independent nominations have been rejected during the scrutiny of papers ahead of the Assembly Elections in the state.
The Karnataka Chief Electoral Office received as many as 5,834 nominations till Wednesday, which was the last date for filing of nominations, from more than 3,945 candidates in 213 Assembly constituencies across Karnataka.
The scrutiny of nominations had been delayed in as many as 11 Assembly constituencies, including Bagalkot, Gulbarga (S), Bhatkal, KGF, Teradal, Bidar South, Yelburga, Kumta, and Channapatna, due to some technical problems.
As many as 1,846 nominations were received from the independents. The last day for withdrawal of nominations is April 20.
