Guwahati: An independent panchayat candidate allegedly committed suicide on Friday after losing an election in Assam's Kamrup (Rural) district, police sources said.
Mintu Das contested from 114 Ganmou village panchayat in Sualkuchi and lost the elections, the results for which were announced last night.
A depressed Das later hanged himself in his house, the sources added.
